One crew, one price, from the first cut to handover. Residential retaining across the Yarra Valley and Melbourne's east, from $20,000.
Hannah calls you back the same day. Mitch walks your site himself, and your written estimate lands within 48 hours of the visit — line by line, not a ballpark.
There's a reason two quotes on the same wall can be thousands apart. The engineering, the drainage, the insurance and the paperwork are what's been left out — and none of that shows up until something moves.
Walls over a metre need engineered footings and a drainage system behind them. Both cost money and neither is visible once the job's finished — which is exactly why they're the first things dropped to come in under someone else.
An engineered wall comes with structural certification. If nobody organised it, that quietly becomes your problem years later when a buyer's conveyancer asks for it — and it costs far more to sort out after the fact than it would have at the start.
When it's a single operator, your job stops every time he's needed somewhere else. Weeks become months, the site sits open through winter, and there's nobody behind him to pick it up.
We treat people's jobs and homes as if they were our own.Mitch · Align Excavation Group
Align has deep experience in commercial and subdivision retaining — the long runs holding up roads, estates and building platforms. Walls up to a kilometre long and four metres high, built to engineering that's signed off before anyone turns a sod.
Residential work gets handled the same way. Same engineering, same drainage detail, same blokes. We'll build a 30m wall to the same standard as a 1km wall.
Four steps, no chasing. You'll know who's coming, when, and exactly what you're paying for before anything moves.
The same day. She'll take the location, the rough size of the wall and what you're trying to achieve, then book Mitch in.
He reads the levels, the soil and the access, and talks through what's structurally possible on your block — and what isn't.
Within 48 hours of the site visit. Excavation, drainage, materials and the build, priced line by line, with engineering and permits organised where required.
We dig, drain, build and finish with the same crew, then hand the site back clean and ready for landscaping.
Two walls can look identical the day they're finished and be completely different jobs. The difference is underneath — the footings, the drainage and the backfill. Every engineered build is backed by a written 20-year structural guarantee.
Footing depth and post spacing come off the engineering and the actual soil on your block, not off a standard detail reused on every job.
Ag-line and free-draining backfill go in behind every wall. Without it water has nowhere to go but into the back of the wall — which is what makes walls bow out.
Levels left true, site cleaned up and handed back ready for the landscaper, the paving or the pool — not left as someone else's problem.

Best suited to projects $20,000 and above. Hannah calls you back the same day.
Most of the residential work we take on lands between $20,000 and $100,000. The number moves on height, length, materials, how hard the site is to get a machine into, and what the engineering calls for. You get an itemised price after Mitch has walked the site — not a figure guessed off a photo.
Generally anything over a metre does, and on a sloped block it's usually not optional. If you already have drawings, we build to them. If you don't, we organise the engineering and the permits as part of the job so it isn't another thing on your list.
We do it. Align is an excavation business first — the cut, the site prep, the drainage and the wall are all one scope on our own machines. That's the whole point: one crew and one price instead of three trades to sequence and blame.
Concrete sleeper is our specialty — it's what we build most days and what suits most residential blocks. We also build timber sleeper and rock walls where the site calls for it. The one thing we don't take on is block walls. Mitch will walk you through what works for the load, the soil and the look you're after when he's on site.
We're based in Melbourne's east and travel right across Victoria. Most residential work is close to home, but we go wherever the job is. Not sure if we reach you? Give us a call and we'll tell you straight away.
That's most of what we do. Steep sites and awkward access are exactly the jobs that need the dig and the wall handled by the same crew — it's when they're split that things go wrong. Mitch will tell you on site what's realistic before you spend anything.
